She was predeceased by her loving husband Louis  Maydaniuk, son Michael Maydaniuk, parentsAnnie and Wasyl Bonchuk, sisters Martha Warniski, Mary Bidochka, Anne Yaskiw, & Irene Kaskiw, and her brothers John, Matt & Peter Bonchuk.

Nellie was born in Rossburn, Manitoba on September 21, 1914. In 1934 she married Louis Maydaniuk. Together they farmed and raised 4 sons. In 1966 Louis passed away from cancer and Nellie was forced to sell the farm and move into the town of Rossburn.

There she took on a job at a restaurant and kept very active with the Ukrainian Catholic  Ladies League and Church Choir. Missing her family in 1971, she decided to move to Edmonton to be close with her sons. There she opened a restaurant of her own. It wasn’t long before she established a large clientele of working people with her special cooking and people skills.

After a few years she sold her restaurant and took on a job she had a passion for, working at the Norwood Extended Care Hospital in Edmonton, taking care of elderly. Nellie retired in 1977 and moved to Kamloops to live with her son Ken and her granddaughter Terri. She was very much involved with the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kamloops. She had a lot of friends and enjoyed many fun years in the Kamloops community. Whether it was bake sales or Kamloops Folk Fest she was always there to help. She loved to go camping and fishing. At the age of 65 she was still actively going snowmobiling & tubing in the winter.

By 1995 she was stricken by Alzheimer’s and eventually need extended care. She took residency at the Overlander Extended Care Hospital in Kamloops, BC for 15 years until her passing.

Special thanks to all the Staff of Overlander Extended Care, who helped take care of Nellie. We got to know many of you like our own family.
