Roger MacPherson
March 18, 1939 – May 10, 2010
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that the family of Roger MacPherson announces his sudden passing on May 10, 2010 at the age of 71.
Roger was born in 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta to Angus and Winnifred MacPherson who settled in the St. Brides, Alberta area after they immigrated from Scotland and Ireland respectively in 1927. Roger is the eldest brother of four, survived by his brother Russell (Pat) MacPherson and his sister Shirley (Bill) Garnier. He is pre-deceased by his mother, father and brother Ronnie (Pauline) MacPherson.
As a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry, Roger traveled throughout much of BC and AB working on many historic highway and infrastructure projects. His family camped in the summer seasons to be near him as he helped build roads into new towns or create new wetland areas for protected wildlife. He was a participant in the rescue operation for the Grand Duke Mine disaster in 1964 and fondly remembers being able to pull out a survivor buried deep in the snow with his equipment.
In 1966, Roger married Shirley Morin of Progress, BC and raised three children over their 43 years together. Darren and his wife Breonna and daughter Keely live in Vernon, BC. Darcy and his wife Mandy live in Calgary, AB with their sons Jack and Charlie. His daughter Heather lives with her husband Jason McKeown and their three sons Aiden, Duncan and Roan in Airdrie, AB.
Roger was known for his relaxed, humour filled, easy-going attitude. In reflection of his personality, an informal Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 between 11:00 am and 2 pm in the Kamloops Funeral Home Tea Room, 285 Fortune Drive.
Those who desire may make memorial donations in memory of Roger to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 203-635 Victoria St., Kamloops BC V2C 2B3.
