MICHAEL MELNECHUK
1919 ~ 2010
Michael Melnechuk of Kamloops passed away on May 15, 2010 at 91 years of age.
His memory will always be treasured by his children Michele Melnechuk, Mary Melnechuk and David Melnechuk, all of Kamloops; grandchildren Lee Watson, Kyla Ayres and Kiera Ayres; great grandson Kolten Michael Watson; brothers and sisters Pete, Nick, Doris, Terry, Irene and Anne; and hundreds of other members from our very close family. He was predeceased by his wife Mac Melnechuk, son Allan Melnechuk, brothers Bill, Alec and Fred, and sister Kyleen.
Mike came to the Kamloops area in his early twenties, prospecting for gold and he then joined the Rocky Mountain Rangers. After training, he was sent to England to fight with the Calgary Highlanders in the Second World War. He fought in France as a Corporal, was injured and returned to England to serve out the remainder of the conflict. Mike stayed active in the military and he was called upon once again to defend Canada during the Korean War. He retired from the Service in 1968 as a Captain. Mike then started a fencing company which his daughter took over upon his retirement. He lived a very full life and was very involved with his family whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to everyone at the Ponderosa Lodge.
The Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mary Widmer officiating.
