Dr. Atsushi “Oats” Nabata

It is with great sadness that the family of Atsushi Nabata announces his passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, May 29, 2010. Atsushi will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Louise and their children, Liane (Barry), Neil, Colleen (Blaine), and Tammy; his eight grandchildren, Erin, Kyle, Alix, Jon, Bradley, Bryce, Brett and Brock; and his brothers, Frank (Sumi), Nobby, and Yosh (Sumiko) with numerous nieces and nephews.

Atsushi was born on March 9, 1930 in Vancouver, B.C. and was raised in Magna Bay. He graduated in 1956 from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Alberta and went on to practice Dentistry for over 42 years in Kamloops. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, and poker player. He looked forward to “matsutake-tori” (mushroom hunting) and enjoyed curling and bowling earlier in his life. He greatly valued the time spent with family and close friends.

Endless gratitude is expressed to Dr. Hollman for her tireless and compassionate care, staff at 5 North, and especially to all the staff at Marjorie Willoughby Hospice for giving their loving support and making dad’s final days so comfortable.

A Funeral Service in Memory of Atsushi will be held on Saturday, June 5, at 2:00 P.M., at Kamloops Funeral Home, 285 Fortune Drive.

Those who so desire may make Memorial Donations in memory of Dr. Nabata to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House, 72 Whiteshield Crescent South, Kamloops, B.C. V2E 2S9.
